Amazingly it has nothing to do with Windows. It was designed completely from scratch and the main goal is to create an OS that is reliable/dependable. There's a novel idea. People are guessing it might have something to do with Microsoft's upcoming BigTop project which has something to do with distributed infrastructure for computing. The network is the computer? It's getting closer it seems.
